Lesson Title:
Longitude and Latitude

Objective:
The student will be able to differentiate Lines of Longitude from Lines of Latitude.

The student will be able to locate and identify lines of Lines, of Latitude, Lines of Longitude, the equator, the north pole, the south pole, the Prime Meridian and the International Date Line.

Florida Next Generation Sunshine State Standards:
SS.6.G.1.1  Use latitude and longitude coordinates to understand the relationship between people and places on the Earth.

SS.6.G.1.4
  Utilize tools geographers use to study the world.



SS.6.G.1.5 
Use scale, cardinal, and intermediate directions, and estimation of distances between places on current and ancient maps of the world.

Activities:
  • Latitude Dance:  teacher and students stretch out wide to represent latitude and stand straight while jumping up and down to simulate longitude.
